Vršac is a small city in northeastern Serbia, close to the Romanian border. The city has been built on the foothills of a striking hill, and on the top of the hill there's a castle dating back to 1439. It has been abandoned for centuries, but reconstruction started in 2009. The main tower of the castle is today in good condition, other parts remain as ruins.
During its use, the castle has been held both by the Serbian and Ottoman empires. It was in a strategic position along important roads, and visibility far away. However, the castle lost its strategic importance early, already in 1626 :-) and has since been abandoned.
More information of the castle can be found from Wikipedia.

In Vršac town there's a restaurant and hotel, the Helvecija 1880, with a basement saunas and a pool. Visited those as well:
